Make Time for Bakuriani

There are many hotels and elevators in winter, and in summer, few. When choosing between Gudauri and Bakuriani ski resorts in Georgia, tourists usually choose Gudauri because it’s easier to get there from Tbilisi. But besides the ski resort, many interesting things around Bakuriani are not to be missed.

Lake Tabatskuri

This is one of the deepest lakes in Georgia - its maximum depth is 40 meters. That’s why the water in the lake is cold almost all year round. Even in summer, the water temperature doesn’t rise above 24 degrees Celsius.

Tabatskuri is located 1991 m above sea level. Approaching it is very difficult. Steep slopes surround it, and the shore is rocky and inaccessible. The flora here is poor, and there is almost no vegetation but plenty of trout and carp.

Timotesubani Temple

The temple was built on the ruins of an ancient cult building from the 8th century from 1195 to 1225. The frescoes on the walls and vaults from the 13th century are perfectly preserved and can be seen by everyone.

The temple's official name is Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, one of the best examples of Georgian medieval art.

Tskhratskaro Pass

Tskhratskaro Pass is 2462 m in the Western part of the Trialeti Range, Georgia. Several roads and ways lead to that place. For example, you can visit Bakuriani resort only in an SUV class car because you must drive off-road.

Lake Tabatskuri and Nariani Plain are not far from the pass, where you can take a leisurely drive and enjoy the view of Georgia.

Borjomi-Kharagauli Park

Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park has many landscapes: lakes, beautiful valleys, and numerous mountain ranges. The park is also rich in fauna: rare species of animals and birds in the country, such as golden eagles, forest wild cats, and Caucasian red deer, can be found here.

The park is 76 hectares for hiking, and you probably couldn’t see it all in a day.
