Car rental requirements in Ukraine
Basic requirements are similar across companies, but the details – age, deposit, limits – vary a lot. Here is what applies at Getmancar.
Driver age and experience
You can rent a car from the age of 18 with a category B license, with no minimum driving experience. For comparison, most large rental companies in Ukraine require drivers to be at least 21 with 2 years of driving experience.
Documents
- passport (Ukrainian or foreign);
- driver's license – physical or digital in the Diia app;
- for foreign drivers – a national license together with an International Driving Permit (IDP).
Deposit and payment
The deposit is refunded after you return the car and depends on the car class: 10,000–25,000 UAH in Kyiv and Dnipro, from 19,270 UAH in Lviv. You pay it by bank transfer to the company's IBAN at pickup – cash is not accepted. The rental is paid in advance. No credit card is required.
Mileage and fuel
250 km per day are included in the price. Each extra kilometer costs 10–25 UAH depending on the car. Return the car with the same fuel level as at pickup.
Fuel is paid separately with classic car rental. With Getmancar carsharing, fuel is already included in the rate.
Extras
Child seats, GPS navigation, snow chains, plus a chauffeur service or transfer. Support is available daily from 06:00 to 24:00.
How much does it cost to rent a car in Ukraine
Prices depend on the city, car class and rental period. The longer you rent, the lower the daily rate. Current Getmancar rates:

Rental formats: daily, weekly, monthly, carsharing
Daily car rental
The classic option for a weekend trip, a business trip or replacing your own car. Minimum rental is one day, from 920 UAH.
Weekly and monthly car rental
For longer stays, a weekly car rental or long-term car rental from 30 days is the better deal. For example, a Ravon R2 costs 920 UAH/day for 1–3 days, 750 UAH for 4–14 days and 650 UAH from 15 days. It suits people who have relocated temporarily, are waiting for their car to be repaired or don't want to buy a car.
Carsharing: per minute, per hour, per day
When you need a car for just a few hours, use carsharing in Kyiv, Lviv or Dnipro. Rates in Kyiv:
- per minute – 2.1 UAH/min;
- 1 hour + 10 km – 287–310 UAH;
- 1 day – 1,050–1,140 UAH;
- each km over the included mileage – 20.4 UAH;
- fuel included.
Car rental with a driver
If you'd rather not drive yourself – for meetings, events or a long journey – you can book a car with a driver or a transfer.
Renting a car under martial law: what to know
- Airports. Ukraine's civil airports have been closed to passenger flights since February 2022, so airport pickup is not available. Collect your car at the office or order delivery to your address.
- Curfew. It applies in all regions, but the hours differ. Plan your route so you return the car or reach your accommodation before it starts.
- Checkpoints. Keep your passport, driver's license and rental agreement at hand.
- Route. If you are driving far from the pickup city, agree on the route with the rental company in advance.
- Border. Getmancar cars rented in Ukraine cannot be driven outside the country.
You cannot drive a car rented in Ukraine abroad. If you are heading to Moldova or Romania, cross the border and pick up a Getmancar car there.
How to book a car with Getmancar in 4 steps
- Choose the city, dates and car on the website or in the app.
- Upload your passport and driver's license – Diia works too.
- Pay for the rental in advance and transfer the deposit to the IBAN – no credit card needed.
- Pick up the car at the office or get it delivered to your address.

When to choose Getmancar:
- you are 18–20 or have less than two years of driving experience – most rental companies won't accept you;
- you plan to drive a lot – 250 km per day are included, more than at Rental.ua;
- you need both a rental for several days and a car for an hour – both are in one app;
- you don't have a credit card – the deposit and rental are paid by IBAN transfer.
When to look at others: if you need a car in a city where Getmancar is not available yet, NarsCars and Rental.ua have wider networks. 7cars has a lower starting price, but with age and experience restrictions.
History of the car rental market in Ukraine
The car rental market in Ukraine never followed a predictable path. It depended on the economy, business activity and logistics – and in recent years, on the war. Here is how it got to where it is today.
1990s and early 2000s: a service for foreigners
In the 1990s, car rental was a narrow service for diplomats, foreign businesspeople and visitors to the capital. Fleets were small, processes were manual and prices were out of reach for most Ukrainians.
In the early 2000s, international brands entered Ukraine. They brought standard contracts, deposits, insurance and clear rules. Kyiv was the first city where the market took shape.
After 2008: the rise of local players
After the 2008 crisis, local companies became much more active. They were more flexible than international chains and opened pickup points in Lviv, Dnipro, Odesa and Kharkiv. Car rental stopped being a capital-only service.
Why rental cars became essential
Public transport within and between cities is uneven, so rental cars met real needs: business trips, temporary living in another city, family trips, replacing your own car. At the same time, demand for long-term rental grew as an alternative to buying a car.
Carsharing as a turning point
The next stage was carsharing – cars by the minute or hour through an app, with no office or paper contracts. Getmancar was one of the first in Ukraine to offer this format and made short car trips accessible every day.
Classic rental in a new format
Classic rental didn't disappear – it went digital. Race and AutoProkat joined the Getmancar ecosystem, so daily, weekly and monthly car rental and carsharing are now available in one service.
Rental geography
- Kyiv – the main hub with the largest fleet and the most rental formats.
- Lviv – the center of western Ukraine and a starting point for trips to the Carpathians and the border.
- Dnipro – an industrial and business center with corporate demand.
- Odesa – traditionally a seasonal market.
- Kharkiv – the market is currently very limited.
How the war changed car rental
After 2022 the market shrank but became more focused. Tourist demand almost disappeared, while car rental became a necessity: for relocation, work, volunteering and family trips. On top of the usual conditions – deposits, excess, territorial limits – came curfews, checkpoints and restrictions on certain routes.
Where the market is heading
The car rental market in Ukraine has become more mature, digital and pragmatic. Customers choose convenience over brand: fast booking, transparent terms and the freedom to switch formats – from minutes of carsharing to months of long-term rental.
