Car Sharing in Kazakhstan
Article content
Car Sharing in Kazakhstan has its own specifics, related to the country’s geography, population density, and economic factors. Currently, car sharing services in Kazakhstan are available only in one city — Almaty. Unfortunately, there are no mentions of car sharing services in other cities such as Karaganda, Astana (including car rental services in Astana), Shymkent, Aktobe, Taraz, and others.
Car Sharing Operators in Kazakhstan
Looking at the history of development, car sharing companies have appeared relatively recently:
- In 2016, the station-based carsharing operator Doscar launched in Almaty with 11 cars. By 2019, its fleet grew to 20 vehicles.
- In October 2018, Anytime launched in Almaty with a free-floating model. At the start, carsharing and car rental services in Almaty had 100 vehicles; by April 2019, the fleet had grown to over 240 cars.
- Within the first six months, 65,000 users registered with Anytime, of which 35,000 were approved to use the service. Notably, 25,000 users signed up during the first week alone.
- Anytime operates in Kazakhstan, Belarus, the Czech Republic, and Russia (under the brand name "Delimobil").
ℹ️ As of July 2025, there is only one operator functioning in Kazakhstan — Anytime, providing car sharing and car rental services in Almaty. Doscar has ceased operations, with the latest updates about the company dating back to June 2019.
Fleet, Prices, and Conditions
The fleet consists of 600–800 cars (according to a Forbes interview, Anytime’s fleet in 2023 totals 800 vehicles) available in Almaty. It is also possible to take short trips outside the city or to the airport. Detailed specifications are listed below:
| Parameter | Anytime Almaty |
| Number of cars | 600–800 (800 cars in 2023) |
| Minimum cost | From 48 tenge (0.08 EUR) per minute |
| Minimum driver age | 18 years |
| Requirements | Driver’s license (Kazakhstan or foreign) |
| Car classes | Class B (Hyundai Accent, Kia Rio, and similar) |
Where You Can Use the Car
Cars can be used throughout the city of Almaty. You can pick up a vehicle at one location and drop it off at another. Additionally, it’s possible to drive to the airport and leave the car there.
Outlook
As of 2023, Anytime’s car sharing service has not yet reached profitability, having invested more than 30 million USD over five years of operation in Kazakhstan.
In a 2019 Forbes interview, Anytime representatives announced plans to launch carsharing in three more Kazakh cities within the year: Astana, Shymkent, and Karaganda. Doscar also planned to launch a peer-to-peer carsharing model, allowing ordinary citizens to share their personal cars.
However, these plans were not realized by 2024–2025. Anytime invested over 30 million USD in the development of the service in Kazakhstan but has yet to break even.
⚠️ Important: In 2024, operators promised to launch carsharing in other Kazakh cities, but as of July 2025, carsharing is available only in Almaty, operated solely by Anytime. Doscar ceased operations, with the last publications dating back to June 2019.
For those needing a vehicle for a longer period, traditional car rental in Almaty remains the option.
