When choosing a gas station, a driver is essentially choosing how long their engine will last and how reliably their car will perform every day. That is why fuel quality, transparent sourcing, and honest service are no less important than the car's make or driving style. A well-prepared gas station ranking helps avoid costly mistakes and provides a clear answer as to which stations offer quality petrol and diesel and where there may be risks of damaging the engine.
TOP 10 Gas Stations in Ukraine in 2026
The ranking reflects the results of available independent tests at the time of updating the article. Even within the same network, fuel characteristics may vary depending on the batch and the specific gas station.
How the ranking was compiled: in August 2026, the Institute for Consumer Expertise tested samples of A-95 petrol at nationwide, regional, and local gas stations. Experts assessed the octane number, sulfur content, aromatic hydrocarbons, benzene, and bioethanol. In this article, the research results are used as the basis for updating the ranking, but they characterize specific fuel samples at the time of testing rather than all batches of a particular network.
Below is the TOP 10 gas stations in Ukraine based on the latest quality tests of A-95 petrol in 2026. The ranking concerns fuel quality specifically, so a network's position may change when new laboratory studies become available.
1. WOG
WOG ranks first in the current ranking thanks to one of the best A-95 petrol test results in August 2026. In the laboratory sample, the octane number was 95.9 compared with a minimum standard of 95, sulfur content was 5 mg/kg, aromatic hydrocarbons accounted for 32%, and benzene for 0.61%.
The bioethanol content in the sample was 7.5%. This is important to consider given the new petrol requirements that have been in effect in Ukraine since July 1, 2026.
Based on the combined test results, the WOG sample met the requirements of the study and was among the best-performing samples.
2. KLO
KLO showed one of the best results among the networks tested in August 2026. The octane number of the A-95 petrol tested was 95.6, sulfur content was only 3 mg/kg, aromatic hydrocarbons accounted for 31.2%, and benzene for 0.75%.
The bioethanol content was 7.6%. The sample met the study's standards according to the main parameters.
KLO has a particularly strong presence in Kyiv and the Kyiv region, so for drivers in this area, the network may be one of the practical options for regular refueling.
3. UKRNAFTA
UKRNAFTA ranks among the top positions based on the results of the A-95 petrol test conducted in August 2026. In the laboratory sample, the octane number was 95.3, sulfur content was 7 mg/kg, aromatic hydrocarbons accounted for 23.3%, and benzene for 0.72%.
The bioethanol content was 7.2%. All key sample parameters met the standards specified in the study.
It is also worth noting that in 2025, UKRNAFTA completed the rebranding of 118 former Shell filling stations. Therefore, Shell should no longer be considered a separate operating gas station network in Ukraine.
4. UPG
UPG also demonstrated strong results during the A-95 petrol test in August 2026. The octane number of the tested sample was 95.3, sulfur content was 8 mg/kg, aromatic hydrocarbons accounted for 23.9%, and benzene for 0.88%.
The bioethanol content was 7.4%. According to the main physicochemical parameters, the sample met the standards of the study.
Thus, UPG is among the networks with the best results in the latest laboratory test.
5. AVANTAGE 7
AVANTAGE 7 was among the networks whose samples showed no exceedances of the main regulatory parameters during the A-95 petrol test in August 2026.
The octane number was 95.5, sulfur content was 7 mg/kg, aromatic hydrocarbons accounted for 26.3%, and benzene for 0.64%. The bioethanol content was 8.9%.
According to the laboratory test, these indicators met the standards specified in the study.
6. ОККО
ОККО also demonstrated compliance with the main standards during the A-95 petrol test in August 2026. In the tested sample, the octane number was 95.2, sulfur content was 9 mg/kg, aromatic hydrocarbons accounted for 26.4%, and benzene for 0.74%.
The bioethanol content was 8.7%. According to the main physicochemical parameters, the sample met the standards used in the laboratory study.
For drivers, this means that ОККО remains one of the options worth considering when choosing a gas station, if the decision is based on the results of the latest independent tests.
7. SOCAR
SOCAR was among the networks that successfully passed the latest A-95 petrol test in August 2026.
In the tested sample, the octane number was 95.2, sulfur content was 7 mg/kg, aromatic hydrocarbons accounted for 30.6%, and benzene for 0.87%. None of these indicators exceeded the regulatory values specified in the study.
The bioethanol content was 8.9%. Thus, based on the latest laboratory test, SOCAR remains one of the options for drivers who pay attention to petrol quality.
8. ФАКТОР
ФАКТОР is a regional gas station network operating mainly in Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, Poltava, and Donetsk regions, rather than throughout Ukraine. It was tested as part of the A-95 petrol study in August 2026.
In the sample, the octane number was 95.5, sulfur content was 10 mg/kg, aromatic hydrocarbons accounted for 28.3%, and benzene for 0.98%. At the same time, the bioethanol content was 13.87%.
Therefore, this network should be considered separately from the nationwide leaders in the ranking: the main petrol indicators were close to the regulatory standards, but the results for certain parameters require attention.
9. ПЕРОН
ПЕРОН is a regional gas station network operating in Dnipropetrovsk region. In August 2026, fuel samples from the network were tested as part of the laboratory study. The octane number of the tested petrol was approximately 95.3, sulfur content was 9 mg/kg, aromatic hydrocarbons accounted for 25.5%, and benzene for 0.9%.
The bioethanol content was 14.6%. Therefore, when choosing this network, it is worth considering the results of the latest laboratory test rather than relying solely on price or the brand's overall reputation.
10. БАРС
БАРС is a regional gas station network operating in Dnipropetrovsk region. A sample of its petrol was also included in the laboratory test in August 2026.
In the tested petrol, the octane number was 95.0, sulfur content was 9 mg/kg, aromatic hydrocarbons accounted for 31.8%, and benzene for 0.99%. The bioethanol content was 12.7%.
These results demonstrate why, when assessing fuel quality, it is important to look not only at the octane number but also at the overall set of laboratory-tested parameters.
How to Determine Fuel Quality at a Gas Station
To understand whether a particular station meets a high standard, it is not enough to simply trust the brand or the price. Fuel quality at a gas station is determined by a combination of parameters: the correct octane number, low sulfur and benzene content, the absence of unnecessary impurities, and balanced additives. Transportation and storage conditions also play an important role — even a good product can be compromised during logistics.
Key Indicators and Control Methods
Below are the basic technical parameters used by laboratories and expert institutions:
| Indicator | What it means | Why it matters to the driver |
|---|---|---|
| Octane number | Resistance of petrol to knocking | Protection against engine knock, stable operation under load |
| Cetane number (for diesel) | Ability of diesel fuel to ignite quickly and evenly | Easier starting, lower noise, better fuel economy |
| Sulfur content | Amount of corrosive sulfur compounds in the fuel | Catalyst and diesel particulate filter service life, reduced emissions |
| Benzene and aromatic hydrocarbon content | Proportion of toxic and aggressive components in the fuel | Impact on health, the environment, and the service life of rubber components |
| Bioethanol content | Proportion of bioethanol in petrol | Helps assess whether the fuel complies with current standards and understand its composition. |
Bioethanol in Petrol: What Changed in 2026
Since July 1, 2026, new requirements regarding the mandatory share of biocomponents in automotive petrol have been in effect in Ukraine. Therefore, the mere presence of bioethanol in petrol is no longer a sign of poor-quality fuel.
When assessing quality, it is important to consider the actual bioethanol content and whether it complies with current requirements. In the August 2026 laboratory study of A-95 petrol, for example, the bioethanol content was 7.5% at WOG, 7.6% at KLO, 7.2% at UKRNAFTA, 8.7% at ОККО, and 8.9% at SOCAR.

Euro 5 Standard: What Does It Mean?
The Euro 5 standard sets requirements aimed at reducing the content of harmful substances in fuel and, consequently, reducing harmful vehicle emissions. For petrol, the requirements include limits on sulfur, benzene, and aromatic hydrocarbons.
For drivers, compliance with established fuel requirements is an important indicator of quality. At the same time, the “Euro 5” label itself does not mean that the fuel is premium or better in every respect. To assess petrol quality, it is worth considering specific laboratory indicators and the results of independent tests.
Compliance with the Euro 5 standard is only one indicator of fuel quality. When choosing a gas station, it is also worth paying attention to the octane number, sulfur, benzene, aromatic hydrocarbon, and bioethanol content.
Gas Stations Where We Do Not Recommend Refueling Your Car
Despite the large number of networks with an acceptable reputation, there are also stations where expert studies and independent tests regularly identify serious deviations. These may include a lower-than-required octane number, excessive sulfur and benzene content, or the presence of alcohol or bioethanol without proper labeling. Getmancar, as a company that provides car rental services, has its own recommendations for choosing gas stations and advises customers to avoid stations where quality standard violations are systematically recorded. In such cases, even a single refueling can affect engine service life, while systematic use can lead to expensive repairs.
During the laboratory test of A-95 petrol in August 2026, experts also identified samples with deviations in individual parameters. The networks where such deviations were recorded included БРСМ-Нафта, BVS, VST, MARSHALL, MANGO, NEON, and ENERGY+.
These results characterize specific fuel samples at the time of the study. Therefore, they should not be interpreted as a permanent anti-ranking of the entire network.
For example, in the MARSHALL sample, the octane number was 93.6 compared with a minimum standard of 95, while the benzene content was 1.7%. At БРСМ-Нафта, the octane number was 95.0, sulfur content was 12 mg/kg, and benzene content was 1.1%.

Risks of Refueling with Poor-Quality Fuel
Using poor-quality petrol or diesel is not just a matter of “slightly worse performance.” The consequences can quickly turn into serious technical problems and significant financial costs. Any honest review of the top gas stations in Ukraine should explain separately why saving money on fuel almost always ends up costing more in repairs and servicing.
First, the engine suffers: knocking, incomplete combustion, carbon deposits on valves and pistons, overheating, and accelerated wear of the cylinder-piston group. For diesel engines, poor-quality fuel means a risk of damaging high-pressure injectors and the high-pressure fuel pump, which are particularly sensitive to impurities and moisture. Second, the fuel system can become clogged: filters lose their flow capacity more quickly, injectors operate unevenly, the engine may misfire, and power decreases.
Third, the emissions-control components suffer: the catalytic converter, diesel particulate filter, and oxygen sensors. They are designed to work with a specific exhaust gas composition, and any deviations accelerate their degradation. Even a high-quality gas station ranking cannot compensate for the damage caused by systematically ignoring warning signs such as increased smoke, exhaust odors, or a “Check Engine” light after refueling at a questionable station. Ultimately, the cost of replacing a catalytic converter or injectors can easily exceed any short-term savings per liter.
Practical Tips for Choosing a Gas Station
A reliable gas station ranking is only a starting point. Drivers should also learn to assess a station on site. Pay attention to the cleanliness of the premises, the condition of the pumps, the availability of official information about suppliers and standards, and how openly staff answer questions. If a network publicly participates in independent tests, cooperates with expert institutions, and does not hide the results, this is a significant advantage. In this case, fuel quality at the gas station is confirmed not only by words but also by facts.
What Should You Look for When Choosing a Gas Station?
- The network's reputation, real customer reviews, and participation in independent studies.
- Information about the Euro 5 standard and the origin of the fuel.
- Consistent station operation: functioning pumps, a receipt, and accurate recording of the dispensed volume.
How Can You Recognize Poor-Quality Fuel?
After refueling at a questionable station, a car often reacts very quickly: acceleration may become sluggish, smoke may increase, fuel consumption may rise, and the engine may run more roughly than usual. If this happens after visiting a gas station that is new to you, it is better not to return there, regardless of what any gas station ranking says about it. Another warning sign is the appearance of engine errors, starting problems, or unstable idle speed within the first few days after refueling.
What to Do If You Suspect Poor-Quality Fuel: Step-by-Step Guide
If jerking occurs after leaving a gas station, power drops, the engine starts misfiring, or the Check Engine light comes on, you need to act quickly and follow the correct legal procedure. A verbal complaint alone will not produce results.
- Stop immediately and keep the receipt. The fiscal receipt is your only legal document confirming the purchase. Without it, proving the gas station's fault is practically impossible. Record the exact time, pump number, and station address.
- Stop using the vehicle. Do not try to “run out” the bad petrol by mixing it with good fuel — this can lead to catastrophic damage to the catalytic converter, high-pressure fuel pump, or injectors. Call a tow truck and take the car to a certified service station.
- Document the damage at the service station. Ask the mechanics to prepare an official inspection report and specify signs of poor-quality fuel (for example, red deposits on spark plugs or jelly-like sediment in the fuel filter).
- Arrange proper fuel sampling. Petrol poured independently into a plastic container has no legal evidentiary value. The sample should be taken from the vehicle's fuel tank or directly from the pump at the gas station in the presence of a commission (a gas station representative and service station employees), poured into glass containers (arbitration samples), and sealed.
- Contact experts and regulatory authorities.
- Laboratory analysis: You can submit the sealed sample for independent analysis. In Ukraine, the Institute for Consumer Expertise conducts specialized fuel quality research and regularly publishes fuel quality reports.
- Complaint to the authorities: Submit an official consumer rights complaint to the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection. This can be done remotely by sending the complaint and a copy of the receipt to the agency's official email address: econsumer-info@dpss.gov.ua or through the form on its official website.
- File a claim with the gas station. Write an official letter addressed to the management of the gas station network. Attach copies of the fuel receipt, the tow truck service receipt, the service station work order, and the laboratory analysis results. If the evidence has been properly collected, major networks often compensate repair costs before court proceedings to avoid reputational damage.
- Prevention. In the future, use the current top gas station rankings in Ukraine as a reference, check fuel quality certificates at the cashier's desk (they should be freely available), and avoid stations that regularly appear on lists of violators.
Current Situation on the Fuel Market
The quality of petrol at Ukrainian gas stations is regularly tested by independent experts and laboratories. Such studies make it possible to assess the actual characteristics of fuel according to key indicators, including octane number, sulfur, benzene, aromatic hydrocarbon, and bioethanol content.
In 2026, it is particularly important to take current requirements for petrol composition into account. Since July 1, new requirements regarding the content of biocomponents have been in effect in Ukraine, so the mere presence of bioethanol in fuel is not an indication of poor quality. Its actual content and compliance with current standards should be assessed.
Regular laboratory tests help compare the fuel quality of different networks based on specific indicators rather than just price, advertising, or brand reputation. The results of such studies were used to update the gas station ranking in this article.
